The story

Bahamas is Afie Jurvanen, a self-taught Toronto guitarist who backed people like Feist and Jack Johnson before going solo. Bitter Memories comes off his third album, Bahamas Is Afie, which CBC's Q named the best album of 2014. At the 2015 Junos he won Adult Alternative Album of the Year, plus Songwriter of the Year with this song in the mix.

He skipped the usual music video director and went to Heather Goodchild, a visual artist who mostly works in textiles, painting and installation and had shaped the look of his records since the first one. She hand-drew about a thousand pictures of his face. No digital tricks. He told Noisey he wanted it rough, like it took a lot of effort, and joked she's probably sick of looking at him. Then he sold the original drawings as one-of-a-kind posters at his shows. A thousand faces, a thousand merch-table sales. That's a man who understands the music business.
