The story
Dead Fingers is a husband-and-wife duo from Birmingham, Alabama. Taylor Hollingsworth played guitar and wrote songs for Conor Oberst's Mystic Valley Band; Kate Taylor has played keys, drums and bass for her sister, Maria Taylor. Their 2012 debut on Fat Possum got them called the first couple of new Alabama music.
Shoom Doom Babba Labba comes off Big Black Dog, their second album, which they say finally captures what they sound like live. It's one of the rowdy ones: fast, pounding drums and gritty guitar, alt-country that feels like a campfire out in the desert scrub with coyotes for an audience. Under the racket it's a worn-out worker's daydream – too much work, too little time with the kids, and a wish to drop it all and drift off down the river. Banner Gwin directed the video, with effects by jfrii, shot on a Digital Bolex camera. Nonsense title, honest song.
