The story

Tyler Childers wrote All Your'n for his wife, the singer Senora May, and it plays like exactly that: a sweet, plainspoken love song. Fans had been calling for it at live shows for months before it finally came out in June 2019, a single from Country Squire, his first record for RCA. Sturgill Simpson produced it and slid a little wah-wah guitar and some Motown and Muscle Shoals warmth under the Kentucky twang.

Then there's the video. Picture Alice in Wonderland after a long night in the holler. Childers plays several characters – a rumpled guy who wakes up in the woods, an old pool shark, a bartender – and follows a hapless stoner trying to reach a dive bar where a mystical band is playing. Along the way: dancing mushrooms, oversized bugs (a stink bug gets serious screen time), a tree bong and a stumble through the mouth of a living tree. It ends in the bar, with a table getting crashed.

A slow-dance love song with a psychedelic road trip bolted on top. That's the joke, and it works. All Your'n was nominated for Best Country Solo Performance at the 62nd Grammy Awards and lost to Willie Nelson, which is about the most forgivable loss in country music. Country Squire debuted at number one on Billboard's Top Country Albums chart.

A rowdy alt-country stomp from Dead Fingers, the Birmingham, Alabama husband-and-wife duo of Taylor Hollingsworth (of Conor Oberst's Mystic Valley Band) and Kate Taylor. It comes off their 2014 album Big Black Dog: pounding drums, gritty guitar and a tired worker's daydream of floating away. Banner Gwin directed the video.
