The story
Escondido is a Nashville duo, Jessica Maros and Tyler James, who formed in 2011 and recorded their first album in a single day. Try comes from the second one, Walking With a Stranger, which they took a lot more time over. James says the drums went down in a studio and nearly everything else got made in his bedroom.
Maros has called the song a self-portrait and a prayer for peace, written after she walked away from a relationship she'd given everything to. The video slows it all the way down: the two of them float under dark, still water, wrapped around each other and drifting with the music. She described the water as life's hard stuff, tough to swim in and tough to survive, and strangely comforting too. Her own line on it: to mourn is to be free.
