The story
Two Swedish sisters and a mansion full of strange. Klara and Johanna Söderberg ride around in a car with nobody behind the wheel, hang out with owls and shoot lightning out of their fingertips. Director Elliott Sellers shot it at the Paramour Mansion in LA's Silver Lake district and handled the edit and the effects himself, layering in gold-tinted double exposures until the whole thing glows like an old photograph that started misbehaving.
The song was the first single from Stay Gold, their third album, made in Omaha with producer Mike Mogis and the Omaha Symphony Orchestra – you can hear those strings swell under the video. Over the top sit the close harmonies you only get from two siblings who have been singing together forever.
It turned into one of their biggest songs. It went Platinum in the UK and keeps showing up on screen: The Umbrella Academy, the final episode of Bad Sisters, the end credits of a Tales from the Borderlands episode, plus ads for Mercedes-Benz and American Express. They often save it for the encore. Smart move.
