The story
Flight Facilities are Hugo Gruzman and Jimmy Lyell, a Sydney production duo with a soft spot for disco and house. Foreign Language came out on Future Classic in August 2011, written by the pair with singer Jess Higgs, who carries the vocal. It only reached number 87 on the ARIA chart, which undersells it: Triple J listeners voted it number 72 in that year's Hottest 100.
French director Dimitri Basil shot the video in Sydney in November 2011, with Laura Gorun co-directing, and hauled the whole thing back to the 1970s. Purple Sneakers singled out the dramatic slow-motion hair flicks and high-waisted slacks. The Ivy was one location, and the credits also thank a boat dealer for a Chris Craft Corsair and a swimwear label, which tells you roughly how the day went. Five people worked hair and makeup under a supervisor. That hair did not flick itself. The clip was nominated for Australian Video of the Year at the 2012 J Awards.
