The story
By late 2014 NIKO IS was part of Talib Kweli's Javotti Media crew, and Hypnotized Snakes comes off The Cathedral, the label's November 2014 mixtape built to show off its new talent: NIKO, K'Valentine, Cory Mo and Res, with Kweli all over it and guests like Pharoahe Monch, Big K.R.I.T. and Curren$y. The video is presented by Javotti Media and Colours of the Culture, the global collective of visual artists and musicians NIKO runs with his longtime producer Thanks Joey. Concrete Rose Films produced it.
NIKO is Nikolai Paiva, born in Rio de Janeiro. He spent a couple of years in Buenos Aires, moved to Orlando at seven and grew up speaking Portuguese at home in a part of town he calls Little Brazil. He has called Kweli his idol, and says Kweli never tries to change his work. A few months after this dropped, his Javotti debut Brutus came out. Signed to your hero's label, rapping next to him on the mixtape. Decent year.
