The story
ATLiens came out August 27, 1996. It was Outkast's second album, the one where André and Big Boi went to outer space. The title mashes up ATL and aliens, the production leans cosmic, and it debuted at number two on the Billboard 200 on its way to double platinum. Two Dope Boyz (In a Cadillac) is track two, an Organized Noize production that samples the Five Stairsteps. It was never a single. Just under three minutes of the duo flexing their Atlanta credentials.
For the album's 25th birthday in 2021, the deep cut finally got a video of its own. Director and motion graphics artist Rafatoon animated it. André and Big Boi cruise Atlanta in the Cadillac, trailing sparkling smoke, kick it on a stoop with a crew of women, and get talked at by a giant pair of lips before the whole thing blasts off to the moon and ends in one big explosion.
The anniversary also brought a reissue with 14 unreleased instrumentals and a browser game where you play André or Big Boi fighting off an alien invasion of Atlanta. A 25-year-old album track, finally getting the cartoon it always sounded like.
