The story
Indie 500 was Talib Kweli and 9th Wonder's 2015 team-up, a 13-track album The Fader framed as a stand for conscious hip-hop, and Kweli's Orlando signee Niko Is is all over it, on four songs. Technicolor Easels is his solo spotlight near the end, with Khrysis on the beat. Niko was born in Rio de Janeiro, raised in Orlando and signed to Kweli's label, Javotti Media.
The video, out in April 2016, comes with an art crew's credit list. Aodh Breathnach of Bearpit Media directed. The artwork is by Cheba, a Bristol street artist who paints spray-can starscapes he calls nebula funk. The projections are by Thom Buttery, creative director of Limbic Cinema, a studio that specializes in projection mapping. A painter of outer space and a projection crew on a song named after easels. The title was asking for it.
