The story
Wild Child started in a tour van. Kelsey Wilson and Alexander Beggins were backing musicians for the Danish act The Migrant when they began writing songs together on the road, Wilson on violin and Beggins on a baritone ukulele he took from his dad's collection because it was small enough for the van. Back home in Austin they added friends and local players and became a full band in 2010. By 2013 the Austin Music Awards named them best indie band and best folk band in the same year.
Rillo Talk comes from The Runaround, their 2013 second album, produced by Ben Kweller and partly paid for by a Kickstarter that raised more than $40,000. For the video, director Aaron Brown built it around a six-GoPro 360-degree rig and the little planet effect, where the whole world curls up into a tiny globe. Brown said the song felt like being stoned on the couch in Austin, daydreaming while golf plays on a Sunday afternoon, and the rig fit that mood. PetaPixel noted that unlike a lot of 360 rig videos, this one mostly skips the vertigo. The band also posted a separate 360 version.
A sleepy Sunday, bent into a planet. Psychedelic without the seasickness.
