The story
Dawes cut this one with producer Jonathan Wilson during the Passwords sessions in late 2017, then shelved it because it didn't sit right with the rest of the record. More than two years later, in March 2020, with the whole world stuck indoors, they let it out on its own. Every dollar went to the North Shore Animal League America and the MusiCares COVID-19 relief fund.
Taylor Goldsmith wrote it, and the band calls it a silly song. The joke is a good one: we lean on our pets for love like they're our therapists, and a lot of them would ditch us in a heartbeat for a chance at the open street. Caitlin Gerard directed the video, with Silvia Grav behind the camera. A couple of weeks later the band put out a quarantine version too, each member recording from home.
Anyone who has chased a beagle down the block in their socks knows this is basically a documentary.
