The story
Jungle videos run on a simple rule: point the camera at great dancers and don't cut. Back On 74 sticks to it. J Lloyd (Josh Lloyd-Watson, half of the band) and Charlie Di Placido directed, Dutch choreographer Shay Latukolan built the routine, and the whole thing was shot in one take at Alexandra Palace in London, with Gary Kent on Steadicam gliding through the dancers who keep turning up in Jungle's videos.
It's one chapter of a visual album for Volcano, the band's fourth record, and the bigger story follows the dancers' relationships during the making of a big TV special. It launched with a twist, too. For its first two weeks it lived on a WeTransfer site as an interactive art gallery: six of Lloyd's 10,000 artworks hung in the frame, viewers could download them as it played, and every piece someone grabbed left a blank canvas behind for everyone else. A hundred downloaders could win tickets to the tour.
The song is warm nostalgia, named for a made-up street from childhood, with Lydia Kitto singing the verses. Then TikTok found it in late 2023 and the routine went everywhere. It climbed to number 19 in the UK, went platinum in the UK and the US, and picked up an Ivor Novello nomination. Not bad for four minutes with no edits.
