“This is done brilliantly. The film and music line up beautifully, and it makes this innocent cartoon seem so sinister.”
The story
In 2012 the Melvins gave a record away, and a car company picked up the tab. Scion, a Toyota division, paid the band up front for The Bulls & the Bees, a five-song EP that went out as a free download through its Scion A/V music arm on March 13, 2012. Buzz Osborne said he'd rather give it away than charge for it and have people steal it anyway. Hard to argue. That lineup ran two drummers, Dale Crover and Coady Willis, with Jared Warren on bass.
We Are Doomed is the second track, a little over seven minutes of what one reviewer called a doom and sludge highlight. Scion only paid for an official video for the opener, The War on Wisdom. This one is a fan job: a YouTuber named James Clarke set the song to a public-domain film and called it the second entry in his series Saturday Morning Cartunes.
