The story
Josh Ostrander spent years fronting the band Eastern Conference Champions. When that band called it quits in 2015, he started over in his guest bedroom under a new name: Mondo Cozmo, after his dog Cozmo and John Waters' 1969 film Mondo Trasho. His wife sang the backing harmonies. Hold On to Me was the first single out of that bedroom, and it later landed on his 2017 debut album, Plastic Soul.
The video cost exactly nothing. No script, no budget – just friends. His pal, actress Anna Faris, signed on because she loved the song. Director Corey Petrick shot it at OPICA, a West Los Angeles nonprofit that cares for adults living with memory loss and gives their families a breather. Faris plays a young woman visiting the place, and the camera stays with the small, tender moments between her and the people there, all the way to a slow dance at the end.
A song called Hold On to Me, set among people who are slowly losing hold of their own memories. No budget on earth buys that.
