- 2.“This is the kinda band that gets asked to open for an act like Tame Impala, and they just smoke them out of the water.”
- 3.“True story: I bumped into this band in a cafe in Hull, UK. Two things struck me – how friendly they were, and the fact that the guitarist had ordered two Bloody Marys and a jar of pickles. It was 10 a.m.!”
The story
Psychedelic Porn Crumpets are four guys from Perth, Australia, with the best worst band name in rock. They play big, riff-heavy psych rock, and this single off their 2019 album And Now for the Whatchamacallit runs on power chords and a motorik groove that just keeps rolling. Singer Jack McEwan said the song grew out of a breakup and the stuck feeling that follows, the kind where you start questioning every choice you've made. He compared the track to a rhino at full charge. Fair.
The video is the band's UK and European tour from May and June 2019 – Glasgow, Liverpool and the All Points East festival – with Oliver Jones drawing all over the live footage. Guitars turn into beasts. Kids in the mosh pit turn into skeletons. Jones co-directed with Ashley Rommelrath, who filmed it with Gareth Goodlad. A tour diary that got hijacked by a cartoonist on something.
