1.“Those looking for promiscuous breakfast foods on hallucinogens: unfortunately, you have been gravely misled. For the uninitiated, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets are in fact a four-piece rock outfit from Western Australia.”

The story
Psychedelic Porn Crumpets come out of Perth, part of the same Australian psych-rock boom that gave us Tame Impala and King Gizzard, and by their own telling the band met through a mutual drug dealer. Keen For Kick Ons? is pure pub energy. Singer Jack McEwan said it grew out of his days working at a pub, and it follows a purple-haired French girl who wants to keep the night rolling after the bar shuts.
The band asked animators to pitch ideas, and Oliver Jones answered the brief. Within minutes he was on a call with the band and their manager, and he started the next day. His pitch jumped between several animation styles, and so does the video: the band flying through a cartoon universe that keeps changing its skin, with puppets in the mix and an animated Freddie Mercury dropping by. Jones made all the animation and puppets himself, with Richard Howell puppeteering and Leonora Whitehouse sewing the puppet clothes.
The song opened their 2019 album And Now for the Whatchamacallit, and it opened a partnership too. Jones went on to make more than six videos with the band over the next two years, including a clay-animated trilogy where Alice from Wonderland eats a person and gets hunted by an intergalactic bounty hunter. Loud, sticky and very keen.
