The story
Quiet Life is brothers Sean and Ryan Spellman plus a rotating crew of friends, and for a long stretch they had no fixed address. They toured the country in a 2002 Ford diesel van that runs on vegetable oil. Sean says the grease saves money, which buys them more shows, and counts as recycling.
Lost in the Light comes from Foggy, recorded in the summer of 2014 at Mount Slippery Studio outside Philadelphia with Dr. Dog's Scott McMicken helping produce. The album title came from the hazy heat inside that studio, and the cover is a person dressed as a red Super Mario mushroom, shot by the Ukrainian art collective Gorsad. The band wanted to shake off the Americana label, and NPR's World Cafe heard laid-back, melodic folk-rock. Tony Fulgham directed and edited the video, with cinematography by Sam Graydon.
