The story
System of a Down's bassist Shavo Odadjian co-directed this one with David Slade. It opens on a dusty, faraway planet and a circus tent, where the band sits while a mischievous little alien-looking kid with distorted features sneaks around. Then the kid gets famous. In Hollywood he's treated like a celebrity, adored and pampered, the star of his own hip-hop style video with bouncing cars and cash flying through the air.
Fame scoops up the strangest kid in the tent and turns him into a product. Everybody loves the freak while the cameras roll.
Aerials was the third single from Toxicity and gave the band their first number one, topping both Billboard's Alternative Songs and Mainstream Rock charts in 2002. It has gone double platinum in the US, and the video was past 397 million YouTube views by 2023.
