The story
This one isn't a music video, and the uploader says so up front. It's concert visuals – the kind of thing that gets projected behind a band on stage – made by Soulshine Liquid Art Lightshow. Soulshine is John Paussa, who saw his first liquid light show in Miami Beach in July 1968 at age 15 and decided right there he had to do one. He started out with overhead projectors, colored oil and clock glass, later added computers and digital projectors, and lit stages for Los Lobos, Jefferson Starship, George Clinton & P-Funk and plenty more.
The song comes from Before the Frost..., which the Black Crowes recorded live in front of an audience at Levon Helm's barn studio in Woodstock, New York, in early 2009. You can hear the crowd cheer at the end. The album hit number five on the Billboard 200. Critics heard a disco strut in I Ain't Hiding, with Chris Robinson sounding sly and mean, and flanged guitar burbling underneath.
Southern rock with a disco swagger, set to 1960s oil-and-light magic. If you ever wanted to see what the inside of a lava lamp sounds like, start here.
