The story
Fall into a picture, then into the picture inside that picture, and keep going. That's Zoomquilt II: a group piece by 34 artists, with every scene joined to the next by a stretch of transition so the camera can zoom forever through monsters, trippy dream worlds and the odd Disney character. It started as a Flash toy on the web with a slider for speed and direction, the sequel to the original Zoomquilt, a 2004 group project started by Nikolaus Baumgarten. Lines and Colors called it fun pseudo-surrealism, which is about right.
This HD version is a fan's work. YouTube user vidarhol wrote custom Haskell software and spent a few days tweaking and rendering to get the zoom smooth, and made it loop, so the fall never ends. The art credits point to illustrator Markus Neidel's Zoomquilt II page. The soundtrack is Call 911 by BigBonobo, a beat built around a stiff, official-sounding voice reading what sounds like emergency-response training. Put it on a big screen and try to find the bottom.
