The story
Caravan Palace already had one animated hit with Double Ninja – Lone Digger, back in 2015. For Miracle they called the studio back and got something stranger. Producer Thomas Vernay's team, with Mathias Lemaitre Sgard as project manager and character designer, built a storybook world around a mystical Aztec-style temple, where a conquistador stumbles into a civilization run entirely by women.
The joke is on him. The guy who thinks he's discovering something turns out to be the primitive one. Vernay said the idea was to flip the usual animated hero story: women run the show, the man becomes a passive object, and the old clichés of the wild woman and the civilized man get turned inside out. It plays with fertility, femininity and desire, and pokes at how mainstream media draws women. The look is deliberately old-fashioned – slow, fixed shots and big painted sets the team compared to a modern take on Disney's Jungle Book. Without spoiling it, that temple is not what it seems.
Miracle kicked off the Chronologic era in early 2019, the first album the Paris band put out on their own label. Charles Delaporte said it was one of the first tracks to take shape, sparked by a feelgood sketch from bandmate Arnaud with a disco bassline, and that it launched the whole record. The song is about reconnecting with the people around you. The video went somewhere else entirely. Both work.
