The story
Before he was a dubstep headliner, Datsik was Troy Beetles, a kid from Kelowna, British Columbia, who saw Excision play the Shambhala festival in 2008 and went home to make bass music. By 2009 he was stacking up number-one Beatport releases. Jenova Project is one of his remixes from that year, a Datsik take on Nobuo Uematsu, the composer behind Final Fantasy VII. The title points straight at Jenova, the game's parasitic alien life-form and one of its big villains, whose battle theme the internet has been chopping up and remixing since at least 2008.
This isn't an official video. A YouTube channel called FacemClipuri put it together in 2012, saying the song deserved some visuals and the whole thing was made for fun. They sampled footage from another YouTube clip and built the rest in After Effects: dancers in suits covered in lights, moving in the dark to the drops. A dance video for a remix of a video game song. The internet eating its own tail, in HD.
