The story
October 1962. The world spent thirteen days on the edge of nuclear war, and in this version the two men holding the buttons would rather be in a musical. Director Ninian Doff restaged the Cuban Missile Crisis with an actor playing John F. Kennedy and another playing Nikita Khrushchev, both sweating over whether to push the big one – and then Kennedy's daydreams spill over into full Busby Berkeley song-and-dance numbers, choreographed by Supple Nam.
It's a ridiculous premise played with a straight face, and it works because the real history was already absurd. Two men, a lot of fear, a lot of ego and a single button. Spoiler for both the video and the twentieth century: nobody pushes it.
My Trigger was the third single from iii, the 2016 album by Miike Snow – Swedish producers Christian Karlsson and Pontus Winnberg plus American singer Andrew Wyatt. Pulse Films produced the video. Cold War stakes, 1930s Hollywood choreography, and a reminder that the people with their fingers on the button are only human.
