The story
By the late '80s the Tubular Bells guy was chasing the radio. Earth Moving is the title track of Mike Oldfield's 1989 album, a four-minute pop song with a soul lean and a sax solo, sung by Nikki "B" Bentley (she later went by Nikki Lamborn, half of the rock duo Never the Bride). Oldfield wrote it, played the guitars and keyboards, and co-produced it with Daniel Lazerus. Raf Ravenscroft blows the sax.
The video starts out in space. A globe takes shape, astronauts and a shuttle float by, and then it drops down into aerial shots of the ground and bits of animation. After that it's a pile of nods to the planet and to rubbish. Earth and garbage. Fair enough.
The single stalled at number 93 in the UK in the summer of 1989. The clip later turned up on Oldfield's Elements DVD collection in 2004. This copy is a fan upload from 2011, not an official channel.
