The story
While Mumford & Sons were recording and mixing Delta, they kept National Geographic wildlife films playing on mute in the studio. The band called the footage a vision track for their soundtrack. So when the album came out in November 2018, they made it official and teamed up with Nat Geo to set the record to nature film.
Slip Away is one of those pairings – a lyric video built from National Geographic cinematography, directed and edited by Caleb Bardgett, Johnny Dunn and Kees van Dijkhuizen. The same three cut visuals for the whole album, which the band screened for fans in movie theaters in six cities the day before Delta came out. National Geographic said the point was to get people to love the planet a little more, and to want to protect it.
Delta was the band's fourth album, produced by Paul Epworth, and it debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, their third US chart-topper. A folk band went big on the sound, then handed the pictures over to the animals.
