The story
In 2001 a Latvian-born singer called Vitas put The 7th Element on his debut album, Philosophy of Miracle. He's known for a falsetto that doesn't sound like it should come out of a person, and the clip that made him famous online shows him bald, in a bedazzled bodysuit, making some very unusual tongue noises. By the 2010s it had gone viral, and the memes and parodies never stopped coming – a lot of them, oddly, from Thailand.
Enter Q Park, a Yale business grad who quit investment banking, opened restaurants, sold them in 2014 and went all in on social media, first on Vine and then YouTube. His specialty is doing ridiculous things in public around New York, like walking the city in a romper or spending ten hours dressed as Kim Jong Un, and filming the reactions. Here he takes the Vitas performance to the streets of NYC, singing and dancing the whole thing while real New Yorkers decide whether to stare or keep walking. Two and a half minutes of a man fully committed to the bit. The commitment is the joke.
