The story
Wild Child is an Austin, Texas band built around the duo of Kelsey Wilson on vocals and violin and Alexander Beggins on vocals and baritone ukulele. Crazy Bird was the first single from their second album, The Runaround, released in October 2013 on Ben Kweller's label, The Noise Company. It's a love song about wanting someone and fearing they'll leave, sung as a back-and-forth between the two of them, with group whistling and a trumpet solo giving it an old-time jazz and folk swing.
Christian Sorensen Hansen directed the video, which one fan writeup called colorful, weird and artistic, and not what you'd expect for a love song. The song hit number one on The Hype Machine, debuted at number one on the FMBQ SubModern chart and later turned up in an episode of MTV's Awkward. A small band, a big whistle and a sweet song with a nervous heart.
