1.“I love the idea of Will pulling various rats out of his pockets and gently placing them on an interviewer's table.”

- 2.“Masterful secret: during the screaming and psychedelia, the sign that normally says 'The Night Mic with Norm Brenner' says, in the same font, 'Jesus Fucking Christ, Can Someone Help Me? I'm Scared.'”

The story
Will Wood is a New Jersey piano man who borrowed his stage name from filmmaker Ed Wood and has spent his career hopping between folk, jazz, doo-wop, klezmer and whatever else fits through the door. Love, Me Normally was the lead single from The Normal Album, a record his fans paid for up front. The Indiegogo campaign funded in a day and topped $27,000.
Wood pitched the song as a 1950s doo-wop number wearing an 80s power ballad, with Matt Squire producing. His angle: today's 80s nostalgia forgets the best part of the 80s, which was its nostalgia for the 50s. It's a song about the itch to get back to normal, and it dropped on May 29, 2020. Timing.
He made the video himself, too. Wood directed, edited, did the graphics and animation, handled the costumes and helped build the set, with Ian Fursa behind the camera. Practical effects, a flashing-lights warning, a character named Norm Brenner and a crew member credited with Animal Control. Normal is doing a lot of heavy lifting here.
