The story
Duke Dumont needed a follow-up to his number-one hit Need U (100%), and he got one from a session guitarist. Jax Jones, a London musician who used to play in a band called Domino Go, says he built the track himself: a choral loop, some chords, steel drums, and a vocal from Whitney Houston's My Love Is Your Love, picked because it sat in the same key. Session singer Kelli-Leigh sang it, and co-writer Wyclef Jean gave his blessing. Annie Mac premiered it on BBC Radio 1 and got so excited she rewound it mid-play. It went to number one on the UK Singles Chart in March 2014.
Rémy Cayuela directed the video, and the whole thing is shot first person. A guy at home gets his hands on a sci-fi headset, straps it on, and suddenly he's living somebody else's vacation: a villa, beaches, boats, a fast car, skydiving, motorcycles and a lot of bikinis. It came out in February, sold as an escape from winter gloom. Then the device dies at a shooting range and he's back on the couch. One music blog couldn't decide if it was cool or a little bit sad. A decade on, it plays less like science fiction and more like a product demo.
