The story
Flairs is a French electro act, and Truckers Delight started life as a dance track on his 2008 EP Better Than Prince before landing on Third Side Records. The song's title is a salute to the little pleasures a lonely long-haul driver allows himself on the road. Then animator Jérémie Périn got hold of it and took that idea somewhere no trucker's mother should ever see.
Périn, of the Paris studio Première Heure, drew the whole thing in a chunky 8-bit look straight out of the Sega era. The label's own pitch sums it up as Spielberg's Duel crossed with Russ Meyer's Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill! plus some very adult fantasies. Their words for it: very funny, very dirty, very sexy. Not a kids' cartoon. Viewers online mostly landed somewhere between delighted and disturbed.
The clip made the D&AD Awards in the Music Videos category in 2010. Périn kept going too: he later created the animated series LastMan and wrote and directed the 2023 sci-fi feature Mars Express. Everybody starts somewhere. His somewhere was a pixelated truck stop.
