The story
French 79 is Simon Henner, a producer from Marseille. His records sound like the 1980s remembered from a movie theater seat. Hometown came out in 2019 ahead of his second album, Joshua, which he called chapter two of his debut, Olympic. This time he was looking backward: every song on Joshua is tied to a memory from his childhood, and he named the synths of Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Jacques Cousteau documentaries and the mood of Blade Runner among the things rattling around his head.
The video was directed by the duo Cauboyz, who also cut and color graded it, with backing from France's national film board, the CNC. It's a proper little production: a cast of five, extra digital and physical effects, and a credit for one Boris Vialle for the crop circle. Billboard premiered it. A song about home, with a crop circle in it. Spielberg would approve.
