1.“Vangelis' sounds need no voice, Jon's voice needs no music... and yet together they make it extraordinary.”

- 2.“I bought all of this on CD, and I'm proud of it – in Poland 20 years ago, buying one album meant working 3-4 days and spending nothing on bills or food. I worked as a very young welder.”

The story
Jon Anderson sang for Yes. Vangelis was the Greek synth wizard. Their story goes back to 1974, when Vangelis was in the running to replace Rick Wakeman on keyboards in Yes. He didn't get the job (Patrick Moraz did), but the two kept working together anyway, first on Vangelis's own records and then as a duo, with four albums between 1980 and 1991.
Private Collection, from May 1983, was the third. Side one is five songs. Side two is one song: Horizon, almost 23 minutes long, Vangelis on the music and Anderson on the words. It's the opposite of a single. A Prog Archives reviewer called it the kind of thing you lean back and soak in rather than get worked up about, and that's the right way to take it. The album reached number 22 in the UK. That same year Anderson went back to Yes for 90125.
This upload runs the whole thing, start to finish, posted by a fan channel called Progressive Rock Visualisations by Michael Byrne.
