- 2.“I was deep into a mushroom experience, and at 5:50, when those synth trumpets started playing, I understood the entire universe for a good 10 seconds. Can't explain it or describe it. The feeling was just bliss.”

The story
Nine and a half minutes. That's how long Innerbloom runs, and the Sydney trio (known back then as just RÜFÜS) made no apologies for it. Jon George, Tyrone Lindqvist and James Hunt wrote and produced it themselves, and it came out in November 2015 as the third single from their second album, Bloom.
For the video they went back to Katzki, the director behind their earlier clips Take Me, Desert Night, You Were Right and Like an Animal. No band, no plot, no actors. The whole thing is microscope footage of colored paints swirling into each other, shot and cut by Ella Gibbins. Up close the paint stops looking like paint and starts looking like far-off planets and galaxies taking shape. Right picture for a slow-build track that takes its sweet time getting anywhere.
The song grew legs long after release. It went triple platinum in Australia and New Zealand, landed at number five in triple j's Hottest 100 of the Decade, and Sasha's remix won Record of the Year at the 2017 Electronic Music Awards. A nine-minute song people keep coming back to. Patience pays.
