The story
Little Fluffy Clouds is the Orb's best-known track, a 1990 ambient house classic built around Rickie Lee Jones musing about the clouds of her Arizona childhood. In 2012 Alex Paterson handed it to Lee Scratch Perry, the Jamaican dub wizard, and let him turn the clouds gold. They made the album The Orbserver in the Star House in Berlin over several months, and Golden Clouds was the first single. The old analogue burble is swapped for acoustic guitars and dub percussion, and Perry toasts all over it like he owns the sky.
The video was shot and directed by German filmmaker Volker Schaner, who'd been following Perry for 14 years for his documentary Lee Scratch Perry's Vision of Paradise, with editing and extra footage from Mike Coles. It mixes studio sessions with a farmyard visit and clips from the film. Perry tries on hat after hat, paddles in water, wears a Ronald McDonald wig and balances a banana on his head. Nobody had to direct that part.
