The story
In 2016 The Orb made what Alex Paterson called their most ambient album yet, which is saying something for an ambient house band that spent that winter touring the 25th anniversary of Adventures Beyond the Ultraworld. COW / Chill Out, World! came out on the German label Kompakt in October, made in six months, partly from field sounds Paterson caught on his iPhone while touring and dropped straight into Ableton. Wireless Mk2 is the second track.
Kompakt then handed the album out to remixers in a run of EPs called Sin in Space. Part three landed on March 3, 2017, with The Field, Dave DK and Jörg Burger on the vinyl. The digital edition tacked on one more: this Wireless mix by Leandro Fresco, which runs over fourteen minutes there. This upload, from Kompakt's own channel, is about half that.
Fresco is a Buenos Aires musician who spent years as Gustavo Cerati's right hand – in Cerati's live band, on the Soda Stereo reunion tour, in the laptop trio Roken. His own records are beatless and built from stacked synths. Slow, melancholy, a little romantic. Floor music.
