The story
Yello are two guys from Zurich. Boris Blank builds the sounds, and Dieter Meier and guest players add their parts on top. In America they're basically the Oh Yeah band, thanks to Ferris Bueller's Day Off – it was their only US chart single. Rubberbandman came five years later, their first single in more than two years and the lead single from the 1991 album Baby.
Blank made Baby mostly by sampling on a Fairlight – orchestral strings, brass, even breath sounds – in the band's own Zurich studio. Rubberbandman went to number nine in Switzerland and charted in Germany, Finland and the UK, and Baby went all the way to number one in Austria.
